Brief History


  • 1900, October fifteenth - The Institute for the Blind, Cluj-Napoca is established offering educational support for ten children.
  • 1913-1925 - The new school is built on it’s current location, being specially designed as school for the blind.
  • 1923 - The first Print shop for the blind in Cluj-Napoca is established here.
  • 1900-1958 - The school for the Blind
  • 1950 - The kindergarten is established here.
  • 1955 - The establishment of a class for the blind with collateral hearing disabilities.
  • 1958-1978 - The High School for the Blind
  • 1966 - The launching of the program for the visually impaired.
  • 1978-1983 - The name and the profile of the School is changed to The High School for Nurses.
  • 1983 - The High School for the Blind is unwillingly eliminated.
  • 1983-1990 - The school offers educational service to I-VIII grade pupils only.
  • 1990 - The resumption of the High School.
  • 1992 - The School receives it’s current name, High School for the Visually Impaired, including School and kindergarten.
  • 1998 - The establishment of the department for early intervention, designed for children with visual and collateral disabilities.
  • 1999 - The establishment of a class for children with visual and hearing disabilities. The program was achieved by help of M. Ed. C. and of the Sense International organization.
  • 2006, September fifteenth - A new building is inaugurated. The new edifice, which contains ten classes, was built through the City’s Infrastructure Renovation Program
  • 2007, July the fifth - The School obtained the “European School” certificate.
  • 2007 - The establishment of the first extramural education program for high school. The High School for the Visually Impaired in Cluj-Napoca, is the only school in Romania that offers such education program.
  • 2008, February the twenty seventh - The launch of the day centre for evaluation, recuperation and rehabilitation / compensation of the children with visual and collateral disabilities.
